Gerry Adams and Explosives Detector Dog (EDD) Jarro are the first private sector explosives detection canine team in Washington.

Gerry has over thirty years' experience as a licensed security consultant and private investigator.

K-9 Jarro is a Dutch Shepherd with practical and work experience since 2002.  Jarro has screened venues including the Washington State Convention and Trade Center, and Key Arena.  The team has also screened shopping malls, underground utilities, power lines, warehouses, industrial plants, military cargo, ship stores, and power plants.

Gerry has worked with and around dogs through most of his career. Since 1999 he has been involved with rehabilitating dogs that have been found as strays or rescued by animal welfare organizations.  His specific tasks included helping dogs with anti-social behavior overcome their problems so they could be candidates for adoption.

During 2000, Gerry started assisting other handlers with working and training contraband detection dogs.  After September 11, 2001, he recognized there was still an ongoing need for a private sector EDD and began a search for a suitable partner.  Jarro was found, after an extensive search, with several other candidates, in South Carolina at Highland Detector Dog Kennels.  Jarro stood far above the other dogs as far as his abilities to recognize explosive odors.  He was just a pup then, barely over a year old.  Gerry met Jarro in July 2002 and they spent the next few weeks training and bonding in the usual 100-degree/100% humidity of that part of the country.  Jarro proved his worth, Gerry proved his abilities and both have been a working team since.

Articles regarding EDDs authored by Gerry have appeared in publications of the World Association of Detectives, The Scotti School for executive protection, and various newsletters and websites.

Gerry is licensed by the State of Washington as a security consultant and canine handler.  His licensure as a consultant and investigator since 1972 and continuation as a consultant and canine handler is a combination of qualifications not commonly found in this field.
